Books and libraries form a crucial foundation in every Early Childhood Classroom. In this lively session, we learn to expand the use of this vital resource in new and creative ways. Book content inspires fun, engaging spinoffs such as letter recognition, word play and ‘picture talking’. Emphasis on early literacy including alphabet and sound recognition, tapping out syllables, print awareness and direction.
A wide range of specific book titles will be explored concentrating on excellent children’s literature set in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, India, Guatemala and books on Native Americans. We’ll also dive into culturally appropriate and inclusive books focusing on social justice.
This is a hand-on workshop and participation is encouraged. Keeping it simple, we’ll use lots of recycled materials. Join supportive workshop leader, Karen O. Brown in this useful and essential idea building class.
