What is RAINBOWDANCE®?

Rainbowdance® is a music and movement program for 2-5 year olds and one caretaker that strengthens family relationships and children’s social skills. Dance, role-play, props and story time are used to create a shared space of fun and bonding for you and your child.

Rainbowdance® is a program of Boston Children’s Foundation and Inspired Child is the only certified arts organization in Washington, DC trained in Rainbowdance.

meet teaching artist

katie macyshyn!

Katie Macyshyn (they/she) is an artiste and creative play practitioner. Their collaborative new media art uses camp theatricality to explore mental health, alienation, and reconciliation. Macyshyn holds a BFA, with a focus on performance art, from the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design at George Washington University. They have been featured in various performance art festivals, DIY venues, and galleries such as Arlington Arts Center, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, VisArts, and Transformer. They are also an art instructor and songstrix who specializes in queering classrooms and the therapeutic benefits of creative play. Macyshyn is a regular at experimental performance venue Rhizome DC, DCPL's drag story time, and is a resident artist at Project Create, DC. She lives in Mount Rainier, MD and is from Toms River, NJ. 

FAQs

Should the adult participate in class?

Yes, all students must be accompanied by an adult. An important aspect of the class is building relationships between children and parents. One adult per child should attend.

Where will the class take place?

The class takes place in the beautiful sanctuary in the Dumbarton United Methodist Church. The Inspired Child offices are based at Dumbarton United Methodist Church.

Please enter through the front doors and a staff member will be there to greet you and show you to the space.

Is the space wheelchair accessible?

Our space is fully ADA accessible. There is a ramp to the front doors of the building and an elevator going up to the sanctuary where the classes are held. Please contact us, education@dumbartonartsed.org, if you have any additional questions.

Can I register more than one child?

Yes! Please contact us if you’d like to register more than one child for the class, education@dumbartonartsed.org.

do you offer make up classes?

If the class is canceled for any unforeseen circumstance, we will off a make up session the week after the last class. If you are unable to attend a class session, there is not a make-up class available. However, you can bring a friend to a future class to make up for your missed class.

What is parking like?

Free 2-hour street parking is available on Dumbarton St. NW and surrounding streets. The neighborhood parking is can be hit or miss, but generally there are spaces available within a few blocks. There are also paid parking garage nearby. Those include the following:
