Taste the Sunshine, Touch the Sky with Sarah Plydell

Adapted from her award-winning book, "The Dramatic Difference,” Inspired Child teaching artist Sarah Pleydell, gives teachers hands-on experience using multi-sensory props and stimulation plus simple storytelling techniques to enhance their reading of much-loved children's books.

The workshop kicks off with the perennial favorite, "Goodnight Moon" and  progresses through different levels of complexity to "So Much,"  to "The Very Busy Spider" to  round off  with "Where the Wild Things Are." Teachers will come away with a page-by-page guide to multisensory enrichments-including chimes, bird whistles, drums, spray bottles and cotton balls --to name but a few-- that will attract the children's attention and hold it.

Simple story-telling tricks, such as modulating your voice and selecting telling details help ground this approach. Through these research-tested techniques, children's listening and comprehension skills will develop along with their language acquisition and retention while simultaneously nurturing their social emotional intelligence.
