Meet Our Teaching Artists

Sylvana Christopher

Sylvana Christopher is a DC performer, choreographer and teaching artist. Trained at Metropolitan Ballet Theatre and The Washington School of Ballet, she holds a BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography from The Ohio State University. From Afro-Cuban, Ballet, Breaking, Capoeira, Modern, and Contact Improvisation she studies diverse forms of dance. She conducted dance research in Cuba, Puerto Rico, France and Senegal. An avid performer, Christopher danced works by Michelle Ava, Vladimir Angelov, Rita Burns, Meisha Bosma, Lucy Bowen McCauley, Nancy Havlik, Kate Jordan, Kelly King, Sarah Ewing, Gesel Mason, Natty MnCube, Erica Rebollar, Juan Carlos Rincones, Sarah Beth Oppenheim, Melissa Saint Amour, Helanius Wilkins and Cynthia Word. Theater credits include Amahl & The Night Visitors, Evita and Zarzuela. Christopher is a founding member of Glade Dance Collective whose repertoire includes Health/Care, The Wall, District. Defined?, Mind/Field, Am I There Yet? and SylviDances whose repertoire includes ash, Who and Then She Fell. Christopher presented and performed various works at Dance Place, The Jack Guidone Theater, The Atlas Performing Arts Center, Gallaudet University, Baltimore Theater Project, The Horowitz Performing Arts Center and The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. She loves teaching both youth and adults and currently teaches at Dance Loft on 14 and for Inspired Child. Previously, she taught for Joy of Motion Dance Center, Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning, City Dance, Sitar Arts Center, Washington Performing Arts and The Washington Ballet.
