Inspired Child plays a vital role in ensuring that the youngest children in Washington, DC’s underserved neighborhoods receive an equitable, high-quality early childhood education. Together, we can inspire a lifelong passion for books, learning, and the arts.

Inspired Child is proud to be a six-time recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Work in Early Childhood Education, a four-time featured organization in the Catalogue for Philanthropy, a 2023 Spur Local partner, and a four-time finalist for the Mayor’s Arts Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education. Our Executive Director, Ingrid Zimmer, is the recipient of the 2021 House of Ruth Distinguished Service Award for Inspired Child’s contribution of books, clothes, and diapers to survivors of domestic violence. In 2023, she was featured in Stronger Start: Building Better Child Care, an original 5-part documentary series from DCTV and the Bainum Family Foundation on how we can make the child care system work better for everyone.
