Moving Through Math Toy Stories with Marcia Daft

Join Inspired Child’s teaching artist Marcia Daft, in this workshop and learn how to tell simple stories that bring Early Childhood Mathematics to life! First, learn the storyteller’s craft of creating voices, facial expressions, and gestures that are woven throughout the story. Then, discover how to animate small toys and simple objects while leading students in the telling of a story. As your storytelling unfolds, the mathematical concept that underlies the story is revealed, while your students strengthen their focus, listening, oral language, and collaboration! These engaging math activities are taken from Marcia Daft’s award-winning Early Childhood Math Curriculum, Moving Through Math.

Bunny Jump Day introduces one-to-one correspondence, counting, cardinality, and conservation of number.

Gotta Getta Bear introduces the concepts of sequence and reverse sequence. For example, counting 1-2-3-4-5 is a sequence. Counting 5-4-3-2-1 is the reverse sequence.
